Barolo or Brunello?

Two kings of Italian red wine, with very different characters. Barolo comes from Piedmont and is made from Nebbiolo. Brunello di Montalcino comes from Tuscany and is made from Sangiovese.

Barolo: elegant and powerful

Its pale colour is deceptive: Barolo has firm tannins and fresh acidity. Typical aromas are roses, cherry, tar and truffle. It needs time and truly shines after eight to fifteen years. Ideal with game, truffle dishes and mature cheeses.

Brunello: warm and generous

Brunello is rounder and sunnier, with ripe cherry, plum, leather and herbs. Its softer tannins make it approachable younger. Perfect with bistecca, lamb or a hearty pasta with ragù.

Which one to choose?

If you love finesse and tension, choose Barolo. If you want warmth and body, choose Brunello. Not sure? Come and taste in our shop in Hoegaarden, every Thursday from 15:00 to 20:00.
