Bottle sizes: from half bottle to Balthazar

Wine comes in many more sizes than the classic 75 cl bottle. Large formats are not just impressive: the wine also ages more slowly and gracefully in them.

The names

Half bottle: 37.5 cl. Bottle: 75 cl. Magnum: 1.5 litres or 2 bottles. Jeroboam: 3 litres or 4 bottles. Methuselah: 6 litres or 8 bottles. Balthazar: 12 litres or 16 bottles. Some regions, such as Bordeaux, sometimes use other names.

Why large?

A larger bottle has proportionally less air per litre of wine, so the wine ages more slowly and harmoniously. A magnum is also perfect for a table of six to eight.

For parties

A Jeroboam or Methuselah is a showpiece at any party or wedding. With us you will find Barolo, Bordeaux, Albarone and Barbera in large formats, up to Balthazar, partly to order.

Half bottles

A half bottle is ideal for dinner for two or to try a second wine without opening a full bottle.
