Cork or screw cap: what is the difference?
Many people think a screw cap means a cheap wine. That has long since stopped being true.
Natural cork
Cork comes from the bark of the cork oak. It lets through very little oxygen, which can help long-lived wines evolve slowly. The downside: a small share of bottles can be corked, with a musty smell of wet cardboard.
Screw cap
A screw cap seals very reliably and never causes cork taint. It keeps the freshness and fruit of whites, rosé and young reds perfectly and is easy to close again.
Synthetic and glass stoppers
There are also synthetic and glass stoppers. They cause no cork taint and suit wines that are drunk young.
Which to choose?
For wine you drink within a few years, a screw cap is an excellent choice. For wines meant to age for decades, many wineries still prefer cork. Is one of our bottles corked? Let us know and we will replace it.
